Adventures in South America

There is nothing like travel to broaden your perspective, stretch your imagination and give you a sense of renewed energy. I experienced all those things and more on a recent trip to South America that I took with my husband, brother and sister in law.

It was an ambitious itinerary that had us staying in 5 different places over the course of 2 weeks. We traversed the countryside with gauchos on horseback in Argentina, got the meat sweats after too many asados, shopped til we dropped Buenos Aires, swilled wine at a family owned vineyard in Mendoza, drank Pisco Sours and ate Chilean King Crab in Santiago, and capped of off the journey with the most amazing hiking + scenery in wind-swept Patagonia.

Truly a trip for the memory books and one I will always be grateful for. Here are a few pics + shout outs to the places we stayed, which really made the whole trip even more perfect.

San Antonio de Areco, Argentina: Estancia La Bamba

Buenos Aires, Argentina: Algodon Mansion

Mendoza, Argentina: Entre Cielos

Santiago, Chile: Le Reve

Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile: Awasi

    A Southern Living Christmas

Loved opening up my December Southern Living and seeing the gorgeous shoot we did at Zero George Street Hotel with editor Elly Poston! Now if I could just hire her to come decorate my own house…

      Another A+ Field Feast

With the help of our talented friends + colleagues, ByrdHouse pulled off another incredible Lowcountry Field Feast on Sunday, October 19.

Lots of people to thank for helping this one come together. It’s a labor of love for all involved and it’s a totally satisfying feeling to see it all come together so beautifully. We had a ball!

        YALLFest!

This weekend (Nov. 7+8) marks the 4th annual YALLFest (the largest and most renowned Young Adult literary festival in the country). We’ve had the pleasure of coordinating press for the festival and participating authors for two years now and have really enjoyed doing something outside of our customary food + hospitality bubble. Jonathan Sanchez, owner of Blue Bicycle Books downtown founded the festival in 2010.

This year, there are 60 bestselling authors attending–37 of them are NYTimes bestsellers and several of them have huge hit movies that you’ve heard of even if you aren’t in the YA fiction world. Examples: James Dashner’s The Maze Runner (out now); Veronica Roth’s Divergent; and Gayle Forman’s If I Stay.

5,000+ voracious readers of all ages are expected to descend on the city of Charleston, all clamoring to meet their favorite authors,  get books signed + generally have a good time.

Thanks to Stitch Design Co., the festival now has a fancy new web site with all the pertinent details.

A few pics from last year’s festivities:
