PItmaster John Lewis Coming to Town

As a North Carolina native, the most thought I ever put into BBQ was whether to go for my mama’s Eastern NC vinegar sauce or daddy’s Western NC ketchup-based sauce. Now that I live in South Carolina, I haven’t eaten anything but mustard-based BBQ in many years, which suited me just fine, so I thought.

Well…just when I was getting comfortable in my personal BBQ world…in rolls one of the biggest names in the world of ‘cue–John Lewis–with a whole new set of rules. John is one of the newest clients on the Byrdhouse roster and is currently at the famed La Barbecue in Austin, TX. He made a name for himself in the competition BBQ world, where he won numerous titles all over the country. From all accounts, this guy has the best beef brisket you will ever eat.

He’ll be sharing his talent with us Charlestonians as he opens Lewis Barbecue on Nassau Street in the Half Mile North development.  The city is already buzzing with anticipation and clamoring for a taste. Stay tuned for more Lewis Barbecue news in the coming months, but you can get a first taste at an event at Coast Brewery on Nov. 9.

We cannot wait to work with John + his team. This one’s going to be fun!
